DESTINATION ADVENTURE HOLIDAY GUIDE
Namibia

In fact, Namibia has got such a small human population and so few settlements that 90% of the country can be called ‘remote’. Namibia adventures begin right where travellers choose to be, and going off-road makes adventures increasingly more intense.
Soft adventures such as observing African wildlife in vast national parks, taking nature walks and game viewing excursions on the expansive bush lands surrounding guest farms and lodges, and travelling cross-country on gravel road in 4x4 vehicles, from one sightseeing highlight to the next with nothing but ever-changing natural landscapes in-between them, may be enjoyed by any visitor to Namibia.
Even in the vicinity of towns, one finds options for adventurous activities, such as quad bike tours around the capital, Windhoek, exploring ancient fossil finds near Keetmanshoop, and visiting ghost towns in the coastal Namib Desert near Luderitz where diamonds used to be mined, over 100 years ago.
The central Namibian coast, the area between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, boast the greatest concentration of adventure options. Extreme sports like paragliding across coastal Namib dunes, leisurely boat cruises for observing Namibia’s rich marine life, encounters with the strange creatures and plants of the desert, sand boarding, camel rides, hiking the Swakop River Valley and just about everything else in between are at the adventure traveller’s fingertips.
In far north-eastern Namibia, there are thrills to be had while tiger fishing on the Zambezi River and cruising by boat through a maize of water channels and islands inhabited by hippos, crocodiles, large birds of prey, elephants, predatory mammals and other African species in large numbers.
If you feel like roughing it, you’ve come to the right place too!
Hiking the geologically and botanically fascinating Naukluft Mountains will not let you see a proper bed and a shower for days on end.
Rock climbing in the Spitzkoppe Mountains along bolted routes can easily become a real challenge even for an experienced climber.
Crossing the southern Namib Dune Desert inside the Namib-Naukluft-Park will certainly leave you with far more than only new 4x4 driving skills.
The game-rich Khaudom National Park can up to this day only be visited, if at least two heavy-duty off-road vehicles travel in a convoy, and you better know how to cook on an open fire and how to live with limited water provisions when attempting to traverse this Kalahari wilderness.
Making it in one piece down the infamous Van Zyl’s Pass in the Kaokoveld of far north-western Namibia is still the only way to visit one of the few remaining natural paradises on earth and the Himba people who are calling it home.
Exploring the Messum Crater with only a GPS for orientation will mesmerise even the most seasoned off-road traveller …
Whatever tickles your fancy and whatever the degree of your adventurous aspirations, Namibia has got it! And we at Unique Tours & Safaris in Swakopmund are there, on the ground where the action is, to make your dreams come true – custom-designed to your preferences and travel budget.
