DESTINATION ADVENTURE HOLIDAY GUIDE

Tunisia

Diverse enough to cater equally for sun-seekers, historians and adventure travel nuts, Tunisia is a heady hotchpotch of all the things that make North Africa so enticing. From broad beaches to millennia-old ruins and from mazy medinas to rolling desert, it’s a destination that balances a natural serenity with a pulse-quickening – at times turbulent – energy.

Tunisia is traditionally seen as being Arabia at its most laid-back: women’s rights are good, alcohol is permited and the state and its religion are treated as two separate entities.– if you’re looking for an evocative taste of this part of the globe, you’re in the right place. This is Arabia at its most relaxed and offers business travellers an excellent destination with a difference. Tunisia will draw you in with its beautiful sights and Arabian culture, take you on a historical, multicultural rollercoaster of a journey and leave you breathless and eager for more.

Explore the coast, delve into the Sahara, visit otherworldly landscapes, sample colonial cities or just immerse yourself in the spice-scented allure of the Maghreb.

The Tunisian people are the leader of the revolution and the capacity of change from dictator to democracy.

Most of airlines Companies offering flights to Tunis. Tunisia is a year-round destination, near to most European country and it is located in the central of the world map. Several ferries connect Tunis with Europe.

Tunis is great for shoppers. Popular souvenirs include traditional ceramic bowls, babouches (leather slippers) and djellabas (ankle length robes). Tunisian dates are justifiably famous, while jasmine perfume is a true scent of the country.

Not many cities can lay claim to a founding myth that's a central part of the canon of Western literature, but Tunis can. The story of Queen Dido's founding of Carthage – Tunis's predecessor – is a key part of Virgil's Aeneid. Phoenician Carthage produced equally famous sons as well as daughters, most notably King Hannibal, who took on the might of Rome by marching his elephants over the Alps, in one of the many Punic Wars that the two great powers fought.

March to June and September to November are the optimum times for visiting Tunis – avoiding the heat of the summer and high-season prices and crowds. Winters can be surprisingly chilly and damp, and you'll need to head south for winter sun.
